Film soundtracks are produced using three types of sounds: human voices, music and sound effects. These three types of sounds are crucial for a film to feel realistic for the audience. Sounds and dialogue must perfectly sync with the actions in a film without sync issues and must sound the way they look. If a sound doesn’t quite match the action on screen, the action itself isn’t nearly as believable. Sharpe Sound has worked as either Sound Designer and/or Re-recording Mixer for over 120 short films. Examples of my work have appeared at; BFI London Film Festival, St Kilda AA, Flickerfest, Tropfest, MIFF, Grauman's Chinese Theatre Hollywood, WickedQueer, NYC Independent FF, ShanghaiPRIDE, Postira Seaside FF, Indy Shorts, Rhode Island FF, CinefestOz, Cineteca Nacional de México, Reel Q Pittsburgh, San Antonio QFest, Orlando FF, NewFest, Seoul International Pride FF, St. Louis International FF, PÖFF Shorts and London Short FF.

Drama, reality, documentary, game shows, sport, floor shows, pilots and specials. 25 years of mixing for television. My work has been broadcast in Australia on Channels 7, 9 and 10, the ABC as well as SBS and SBS Viceland.

Sound design is often more subtle than film as often we’re trying to achieve a more realistic sound. Production dialogue recordings are often more challenging to edit and mix and so sound reduction techniques are really heavily used. Often mixing between lapel, camera dna boom audio and so the skill is in making this sound similar and natural.

Often heavily driven by the music track, sport packages can be highly emotive in a generally short period of time. The skill is in mixing the dialogue / VO with the music to really drive the emotion of the package. Usually lots of graphical sound design; think whooshes and impacts, crowds cheering etc.

Television commercials rely even more heavily on the dialogue / VO and so it’s important not to have any music or sound effects too loud. The skill is in creating an emotional impact within a very short period of time. All TVC's are mixed to Australian Standard OP59.

Must not only be mixed to sound great on all types of speakers (mobile phones, laptops & tablets) but also the overall loudness levels must be the same as all other online sources such as Youtube, Spotify, Netflix etc.
